The four ways money walks out
- Unrecorded room sales (ghost rooms). A room is sold for cash, the booking is never entered, the room is quietly reused.
- Own drinks at the bar. Staff sell their own crates through the hotel bar, so hotel stock barely moves and hotel sales stay low.
- Not ringing up sales. A drink is sold, the cash is pocketed, nothing is entered into the system.
- Cash skimming. Small amounts taken from the drawer, invisible on paper records.
How to close each one
Ghost rooms: give every room every night one recorded state, then compare it to door-card openings and corridor cameras. A room used while marked vacant is flagged.
Own drinks and unrung sales: link every bar sale to inventory so stock drops when a drink is sold, and count the fridge at shift close. Missing bottles without a matching sale are shrinkage, shown in naira and attributed to the shift.
Cash skimming: run every till as a session with a declared float and a counted close. The system knows what should be there, and any shortfall carries the cashier's name.
A note on fairness: the goal is evidence, not accusation. Good software gives the owner the facts, timestamps and amounts, so they can ask the right question, not punish on suspicion. NaijaStay is built this way on purpose: the system surfaces the gap, a human decides what it means.
